Cultivating Wealth
Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association (BFAA)
January 2026 | New Year Edition
Welcome to 2026
As we step into a new year, we want to take a moment to welcome you into 2026 with purpose, clarity, and continued commitment.
The Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association (BFAA) remains focused on advocacy, education, and protecting the interests of Black farmers, landowners, and agricultural producers nationwide. This year, we have important initiatives, continued advocacy efforts, and expanded educational resources planned to support our members as we move forward together.
Thank you for your continued engagement and trust.
Volume 1. January 31, 2026
What’s Ahead in 2026
This year, BFAA will continue to focus on:
Protecting land ownership and heirs’ property rights
Advocating for fair treatment and accountability within agricultural systems
Providing education and guidance that supports informed decision-making
Strengthening community connection and member engagement
Our work remains grounded in transparency, persistence, and collective action.
Funding, Business & Financial Resources
Access to capital continues to be a major concern for many farmers and land-based entrepreneurs. As members prepare for a new production and tax year, BFAA encourages careful review of all options and informed decision-making
Small Business & SBA Resources
For members seeking alternatives outside traditional agricultural pipelines, the Small Business Administration (SBA) offers resources that may be helpful:
SBA Microloans – For operating expenses, supplies, or equipment
SBA 7(a) Loans – For working capital, refinancing, or business expansion
SBA Resource Partners – Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs), SCORE mentors, and Women’s Business Centers
These resources may be useful for farmers operating as small businesses or agripreneurs.
Advocacy, Legal & Policy Updates
Advocacy remains central to BFAA’s mission.
Over the past year, there has been increased attention surrounding:
Ongoing concerns related to agricultural equity
Public and congressional scrutiny involving federal agricultural systems
Continued dialogue and legal action addressing barriers faced by Black farmers
BFAA leadership, including President Thomas Burrell, continues to speak publicly on these issues, emphasizing the need for accountability, transparency, and justice.

Education & Practical Resources
Education remains essential, and through BFAA and trusted community-based partners, members are encouraged to engage in learning opportunities that support informed decision-making, including:
• Cooperative Extension and land-grant university workshops
• Independent agricultural educators and nonprofit organizations
• Education on recordkeeping, tax readiness, business compliance, and succession planning
BFAA will continue sharing and guiding members toward educational resources that support informed and protected decision-making.

Are You Participating in the Weekly Zooms?
BFAA’s Zoom meetings, led by President Thomas Burrell, provide ongoing updates on advocacy efforts, policy developments, and issues impacting Black farmers and landowners. These sessions also create space for education, discussion, and shared problem-solving around agriculture, business, and land stewardship.
Members have the opportunity to ask questions, engage with others nationwide, and stay connected to the work and direction of BFAA. Participation is encouraged, though not required, and live attendance allows for the most meaningful engagement.
